Men charged with strong-arm robbery say they were 'playing around'
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office arrested two Beaufort men and charged them with strong-arm robbery after police say they attempted to rob a man waiting for a ride in downtown Beaufort.
While patroling Scott Street on Saturday morning, two drug task force officers arrested Calvin Lockhart, 18, of Bridalwood Drive and Leonard Ramsey, 20, of Pinegrove Road and charged them each with a count of strong-arm robbery, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The officers said Ramsay approached a man and put him in a headlock while Lockhart stood by as lookout, the Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities said Lockhart tried to remove something from the victim's pocket, and when officers confronted the two men, they claimed to know the victim and "were just playing around," according to authorities.
The victim stated he didn't know either of the men and that they had approached him and demanded his money, the Sheriff's Office said. He was not injured in the attack.
Lockhart was released Saturday from the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. Ramsey is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center on $20,000 bail.
