Youth Orchestra to perform Sunday

The Hilton Head Youth Orchestra, directed by David Lunt, will present its final concert of the 2007-'08 season at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, a collection of performances by the Youth Orchestra, Sinfonietta and the Island String Quartet. The concert will take place at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Pope Avenue on Hilton Head Island.Tickets are $10 for adults and may be purchased at the door.Admission is free for students and children. The Hilton Head Youth Orchestra is comprised of area students in grades 5-12.

Students are offered a seat with the orchestra by audition only, and auditions are held at the beginning of each school year.For further information about auditions or the youth orchestra, call 843-842-2055.

Sun City sings about 'Stage and Screen'

The Sun City Chorus spring concert, "Stage and Screen," will be presented at 2 p.m. Wednesday and 7 p.m. Thursday through May 3 at Pinckney Hall in Sun City Hilton Head. The show will feature over 100 mixed voices singing eight-part harmony, as well as an appearance by the Sun City Concert Band. Tickets are $14-$18. Main Street seeks new stage manager

The Main Street Youth Theatre is in need of a stage manager for its next three shows this year. The position is paid. Interested parties should call 843-689-6246.

May River readies its take on 'Jekyll'

The May River Theatre's new production of the musical "Jekyll and Hyde" will run from May 2-18 at the theater, located at Ulmer Auditorium in Bluffton Town Hall.Showtimes are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. String trio performs on Fripp Island

The Fripp Island Friends of Music present the International String Trio of Slava Tolstoy, Irina Chirkova and Ben Powell at5 p.m. Sunday at the Fripp Island Community Centre. Tickets are $20 for non-members and $10 for students. For information, call 843-838-4666.

Jazz Connectiontakes a 'Journey'

The Jazz Connection, part of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, will present "Sentimental Journey: The Songs of World War II," a concert featuring Ray Charles, Lynn Roberts and Bob Alberti, at 7 p.m. May 13 at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort. Charles is known as "the other Ray Charles," a musician, singer, songwriter and conductor who has been performing for 35 years. Vocalist Roberts has worked with Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and the Doc Severinsen band. Performing with them will be conductor, composer and pianist Bob Alberti, tenor saxophonist Harry Allen, trombonist Dave Steinmeyer, trumpeter Bill Prince, bassist Frank Duvall and drummer Steve Primatic. MSYT auditioning for 'Beauty'

Auditions for "Beauty and the Beast," presented by the Main Street Youth Theatre, will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday for children between the ages of 8 and 12, and 2-5 p.m. Saturday for those aged 13 and up at the Main Street Theater, 3000 Main St., Hilton Head Island. Men are especially needed.There also will be an additional audition time from 5:30-9 p.m. Monday for those unable to attend Saturday. Those auditioning are asked to be prepared to sing 16 bars of a song, perform a memorized 60-second monologue and wear shoes for dancing. Please call the theater at 843- 689-6246 to obtain an appointment time. Also needed are a paid sound person, volunteer stitchers for costumes, volunteer builders and backstage hands.

HHSO readies its 'Dream of America'

The final regular concert of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra's season under the direction of Mary Woodmansee Green will wrap up the orchestra's American theme with a performance of Peter Boyer's "Ellis Island: The Dream of America." Charles Ives' "Variations on America," George Gershwin's "An American in Paris" and Adolphus Hailstork's "Celebration!" will complete the program. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. May 5 at Hilton Head's First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway.
