Chorale turns lights up on 'Broadway'

The Lowcountry Chorale will enchant itself twice this weekend when it performs its spring show, "Some Enchanted Evening," today and Saturday at the St. John's Lutheran's Church on Lady's Island.

The concert will feature a collage of favorite Broadway and motion picture tunes, including "Some Enchanted Evening" from "South Pacific"; an Andrew Lloyd Webber medley; Gershwin's "Embraceable You" from "Girl Crazy"; "June Is Bustin' Out All Over," "Clambake" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" from "Carousel"; "Luck Be A Lady" from "Guys and Dolls"; the theme from "New York, New York"; "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" from "Sun Valley Serenade" and many, many more (including a special Chorale ensemble rendition of choral highlights from the Tony award-winning Broadway show "Wicked."

The 40-plus voices of the Lowcountry Chorale are now in their 11th year of bringing choral music to Beaufort County. The group's twice-annual concerts range from challenging examples of classical music to popular favorites.

Directing the ensemble is Cliff Kosier, who also serves as director of the Harbormasters, Beaufort's barbershop chorus and as minister of music at Grace Community Church of Hilton Head Island.

"Music is my passion," said Kosier, "and nothing is more satisfying than helping a group of talented persons transform personal energy into a well-crafted presentation of great melodies."
