[an error occurred while processing this directive]This year's Memorial Day observance event will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial in the Shelter Cove Community Park. This will be the 14th year the Hilton Head Council of the Navy League has sponsored the observance to honor veterans. The program will feature music by the Hilton Head Choral Society, a wreath placement by veterans of the Navy League, a speech by Commander Geoffrey Gage and a flyover by four F/A-18s. Mayor Tom Peeples will attend and provide a proclamation. In addition, this year there will be a special recognition of World War II veterans.
Harbormasters mark 10th anniversary
The Beaufort Harbormasters Barbershop Chorus will hold its 10th Anniversary Concert at 7 p.m. today at the Baptist Church of Beaufort, 600 Charles St., Beaufort. The event is free. For more information, call 843-846-6038.
'Night Music' coming to school
Hilton Head Island High School's Out of the Blue Chorus, directed by Larry Mercer and featuring guest vocalist Dan Gibson, will perform "More Than a Little Night Music" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the high school's Visual and Performing Arts Center. A live orchestra, including Mercer on piano, will accompany the singers in a specially created cabaret setting. The concert will benefit the high school choral department. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $30 for reserved seats and $60 for special onstage cabaret seating. To order, call 843-816-4070.
Island high school show explores 'Dark'
Seahawk Stage Productions at Hilton Head Island High School will present the mystery play "Wait Until Dark" at 8 p.m. today and Saturday at the school's Black Box Theatre. Jazz Corner hosts Dixieland jam
The Dixieland Jazz Society of the Lowcountry will hold its monthly New Orleans-style jazz jam from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Jazz Corner in the Village at Wexford. The event is free, though there is a $7.50 minimum for table seating. For information, call 843-842-8620, or go to www.djslc.com.
Children's chorus preps spring concert
The Lowcountry Children's Chorus, a community treble children's chorus for singers in grade 4 and up, will present its 6th Annual Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. May 30 at the Baptist Church of Beaufort, 600 Charles Street, Beaufort. The event is free, though donations are encouraged. The group's choral repertoire will include ethnic tunes from Cuba and Australia, as well as several American folk songs and Broadway show tunes. Following the spring concert, the group will travel to Charleston to participate in the Piccolo Spoleto festival. The group will perform at 11:30 a.m. May 30 at the 2nd Presbyterian Church. Library hosts stroller fitness class
The Hilton Head Branch of the Beaufort County Library will host a Stroller Fitness Class at 9 a.m. May 31. Jennifer Wolfe, owner of Once Upon a Workout, will offer a free interactive stroller fitness program for parents and children (ages 6 weeks to 24 months). Participants are asked to wear workout clothes and shoes, bring bottled water and don't forget the stroller. Registration is required. For more information, call 843-342-9200.
Stages launches comedy night
Starting this month, the Stages nightclub in Park Plaza is teaming up with the Comedy Zone to present two comedy shows every Wednesday night at the Hilton Head Island club.Julie Scoggins performs this Wednesday. Mall hosts Thursday Farmers Market
The Mall at Shelter Cove is hosting a Farmers Market each Thursday through Aug. 28. The market is open for business from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.Fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruits will be available for purchase. WIC coupons and senior citizen produce vouchers are accepted. Apple Pie painters show at Honey Horn
The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn will feature the "Apple Pie Painters: Inspired by Honey Horn" in the Hilton Head Regional Healthcare Temporary Exhibit Gallery through Sept 2. The six original members of the Apple Pie Painters: Vickie Ebbers, Mary Kelly, John Norlander, Liz Rufenacht, Barb Snow and Peter Hadfalvi are celebrating their 10th year of painting together. The group now numbers nine, with the addition of Marilyn Dizikes, Judy McElynn and Alex Sharma three years ago. The exhibit ranges from photos and photographic collage to watercolor and oil pastel. Gallery tours, Painting demos as well as other events will be held throughout the show. The hours at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sundays
