'La Cage aux Folles' auditions start Sunday at arts center

[an error occurred while processing this directive]The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina will hold auditions for its fall production of the Tony Award-winning musical "La Cage aux Folles" from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.All roles are open for Equity and non-Equity performers between the ages of 16 and the mid-50s. Singers, dancers and local actors are encouraged to audition. "La Cage aux Folles," with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and based on the book by Harvey Fierstein, will be directed by Casey Colgan, who has directed and choreographed a number of arts center shows. Rehearsals begin Sept. 2 and performances run from Sept. 24-Oct. 19. Actors must be available for all rehearsals and performances.

'Showtime' benefits Alzheimer's charity
The "Showtime Memories -- A Low Country Idyll," dinner theater show, hosted by Alzheimer's Family Services of Greater Beaufort, will open with a 6 p.m. reception and 7 p.m. dinner June 27-28 and continue with a 1 p.m. reception and 2 p.m. brunch performance June 29 at the Palmetto Ballroom in the Holiday Inn on U.S. 278 on Hilton Head Island. Tickets are $75 for the dinner theater and $50 for the matinee, and available at the United Way Building, 2226 Boundary St., Bluffton. For information, call 843-521-9190.
MSYT readying 'Beauty and the Beast'
The Main Street Youth Theatre presents "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" at 8 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays from July 2 through Aug. 10 at the Main Street Youth Theatre, 3000 Main St., Hilton Head Island. Visit 'Spinning Nation' on Saturday
Breakthrough Fitness on Hilton Head Island will host the event "Spinning Nation," in which 500 spinning clubs across the country come together to ride. The event, which takes place from 8 to 11 a.m. June 28, benefits cancer and AIDS charities. Breakthrough Fitness is located at 130 Arrow Road.
