The Jazz Corner on Hilton Head Island welcomes back flute player Ali Ryerson today and Saturday, months after she became the first artist to record a live CD, "Ali Ryerson Jammin' at The Jazz Corner," on the club's label, Sweet Jazz Recordings.
But the flute wasn't Ryerson's first choice. At age 5, after she learned to play the piano, she chose the trumpet as her second instrument -- possibly because that was the preferred instrument of her brothers.
"Of course, being the little sister, I wanted to play the trumpet," Ryerson said. She said she's not sure why she chose the flute, but by age 11, she knew she'd be playing it for the rest of her life. "It was destiny," she said.
