I love to showcase the city of Beaufort when relatives and friends come to visit. I've arranged carriage tours as well as those in vans. I've gone to Bay Street with friends and relatives to tell the story of change -- how years ago there was only one bank on Bay Street, no one-way streets and two grocery stores in the heart of the city. As no place stays untouched, the same is the case of Beaufort. Some changes have been welcomed, while others have been (More)

Because of the love of parents and grandparents on both sides of the family, Hazel Blanchard Brown Rose knew that the experience of motherhood had to be worth all the silver and gold in the world. In fact, she yearned for a sibling many times, especially a brother. But being the love of the life of parents and grandparents makes a happy childhood. Friends were close, so she always had children with which to play and have fun. (More)

A springtime luncheon is a wonderful way to get together with friends. It's sort of a coming out party. It is the time to step out of winter clothes, try the newest perfume, enjoy the colors of spring, get to hear the news of family and exchange smiles and laughter over food. (More)

Of the many churches in Beaufort, people driving on Carteret Street can view the Carteret Street United Methodist Church more than any other in the city as they wait to cross the bridge from Port Royal Island to Lady's Island. (More)

Six years ago, we had the Beaufort Clubhouse in town, with all-you-can-eat crab legs every Wednesday and Saturday nights. Now it is a Jade Garden Chinese restaurant. Shoney's has since become both a Mexican restaurant and a Lotus Chinese buffet. Captain D's went bye bye. Now we have a Chick-Fil-A where a Payless Shoe Store used to be. If you look around the town, how many restaurants can you name that have been there consistently for 30 years? (More)

When I began to plan for my 2007 trip to China, granddaughter Makayla Stormer asked me to be sure to send her a postcard. She had definite wishes for the card: The card had to be of a place that I had visited, something I had seen, not just a card that I purchased. I was sure to do this. Not only did the card have a picture of Hong Kong at night, but I matched the card with a photo of the scene when I returned home. This pleased her so much. (More)

Twelve women gather to have fun, enjoy each other and talk as they discuss the chosen book of the month. One of the twelve's home is the gathering place, and each one enters with a smile and a dish. There are pre-plans as each member has a time to host. No one has to ask the day or the time as each person can say it is the first Friday at 6 p.m., which means it's the meeting of the Sistah Girl Book Club. (More)
