•The Choral Program Car Wash is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Advance Auto Parts, 54 Robert Smalls Parkway. Donations will be accepted. Proceeds will help send the school's Philharmonic Society to Washington, D.C. for the Heritage Presidential Inaugural Festival this January.

•The National Honor Society meets at 2:45 p.m. Monday in Room C218.

•Students Against Destructive Decisions Club 2008-09 meets immediately after school Sept. 23 for 30 to 45 minutes in the cafeteria.

BEAUFORT ACADEMY

• Fall Festival T-shirt orders are due Friday

•Lower School Cheer Camp continues through Friday

•The junior class yard sale is from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the school parking lot at 240 Sams Point Road on Lady's Island. Details: 843-524-3393.

BEAUFORT HIGH SCHOOL

•Fall open house, during which parents can meet the teachers in their classrooms, is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday. The footbal game begins at 7:30 p.m. Hot dogs will be served to the first 500 students who are accompanied by parents

•The School Improvement Council meets Sept. 23. The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Officers will be elected. Details: 843-322-2000.

BEAUFORT MIDDLE SCHOOL

•The sixth-grade book club meets from 2:40 to 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. Seventh and eighth grade book clubs meet during lunch periods weekly.

•Flyers outlining requirements for students to be identified as Gifted and Talented in the Arts went home last week. Applications can be obtained from any arts teacher. Gifted and Talented Artistic is in the area of dance, music (vocal and instrumental), drama, and visual art. Applications are due by Monday. Details: contact Lisa Hill.

JOSEPH S. SHANKLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

•The school will host its first Family Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight . The PreK Club, Sand Dollar Club and PTO are now combined. Reading is Fundamental provides a free book for each student and refreshments will be served.

•Students will bring home their interim reports Wednesday.

•Fifth-grade students will visit STARBASE on the Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station each Tuesday and Wednesday of September and Oct. 7 and Oct. 8. Students will participate in activities such as teamwork, ocean air, forces of flight, physics, computer assisted design, rocket construction and launch, and they will get a base tour.

LADY'S ISLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL

•The 2007 Lady's Island Middle School Cougar football picture will be displayed at Applebee's and The Carolina Wings Restaurant.

•A volleyball game against Robert Smalls at home is at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The 2008-09 volleyball team members are: Ariana Parker, Amber Clatterbuck, Ashley Tillery, S'Nitra Mack, Valencia Green, Danielle Camel, Marquis Brown, Djah Stiles, Daejah Smalls, Aaliyah Smalls, Diamond Blackman, Devan Bowersox, Miranda Seng, Janelys Villata, Desere Allen, Alexys Brown and Jasmine Linnen.

• A football game against McCracken Middle School is at 5 p.m. atBluffton High Stadium Thursday.

•A volleyball game begins at 4:30 p.m. against Whale Branch Middle School at Whale Branch Monday.

•Progress reports go home Monday

•The cheerleader donut sale is Monday, through Sept. 30.

ROBERT SMALLS MIDDLE SCHOOL

•The volleyball game is at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday,at Lady's Island Middle School.

•The football game against Hilton Head Middle School is at 5 p.m. Thursdayat Hilton Head High School.

•The Book Fair continues through Friday in the media center.

•The Parent-Teacher Organization fundraiser continues throughSept. 26.

•Volleyball game is at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Beaufort Middle School.

•School Improvement Council meets at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 in the media center.

•Football players, parents and coaches are selling discount cards which feature 15 area businesses. The $10 purchase of each card supports the school's athletic department.

Shell Point Elementary Schooln Family Math Night is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonightin the cafeteria.

THOMAS HEYWARD ACADEMY

•A group of academically talented seventh graders from Thomas Heyward Academy were recently selected to participate in Duke University's Talent Identification Program. The Duke TIP identifies seventh graders in 16 states who have scored at the 95th percentile or above on a national grade-level achievement test. The students selected were: Caleb Badgett, Kathryn Crosby, Samantha Holloway, Nolan Kelly, Nathan Lord, Victoria Tuten and Kaitlin Webster.
