•Fall Intercession for pre-K through seventh grade is from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Oct. 31 at the Wardle Family YMCA, Port Royal.

PALS INTERCESSION

•Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Servicer intersession camp will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Oct. 31 at the Port Royal Center, 1514 Richmond Avenue in Port Royal.

JOSEPH J. SHANKLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

•First- and second-graders will visit the Ridgeland Pumpkin Patch todayfor first grade and Wednesday for second grade. The students will leave the school at 9 a.m. and return at 1 p.m.

•The chorus will perform during intermission at the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Scholarship Benefit Saturday at the University of South Carolina Beaufort Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students younger than 14.

•The First Achievement Quarter will end Oct. 21. Parents are asked to come in and conference with their child's teacher. Students will not attend schoolOct. 27 for parent conferences and Oct. 28 through Oct. 31 for Extending Learning.

LADY'S ISLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL

•The School Improvement Council and Parent Teacher Organization meets at 3 p.m. todayin the media center.

•The Brass Quartet performance is Monday in the lecture theatre. Students will view this during their academic arts time throughout the day.

•Drama and Gateway to Technology fundraiser begins Oct. 21, the 45th day of the school year.

•Students interested in joining a Speed Stacking team can sign up at the front office counter.

THOMAS HEYWARD ACADEMY

•A group of academically talented seventh-graders from Thomas Heyward Academy were recently selected to participate in Duke University's Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP). The Duke TIP identifies seventh-graders in 16 states who have scored at the 95th percentile or above on a national grade-level achievement test. These students are invited to participate in the Duke TIP Seventh-Grade Talent Search and take the SAT. The students selected were: Caleb Badgett, Kathryn Crosby, Samantha Holloway, Nolan Kelly, Nathan Lord, Victoria Tuten and Kaitlin Webster.

•Madison Wall finished second and third, respectively, in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events at the Pinewood Invitational individual school invitational swim meet. She defeated all independent school swimmers, losing only by a fingertip to a senior from Summerville High School in the 50-yard event. Madison, an eighth-grader, is the daughter of Dondi and Theresa Wall, of Ridgeland.
