•Author Rochelle Bailey will discuss her latest work with ages 16 and older and how aspiring authors can get themselves published, at 4:30 p.m. today at the Lobeco Branch of the Beaufort County Library.

•The Exchange Club of Beaufort will hold its 16th annual Ghost Tours Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. All proceeds benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Association. Evening tours by carriage or walk are available by reservation.

Costumed storytellers will share tales of ghostly happenings in some of Beaufort's oldest Historic District residences.

The tours begin at 6:30 p.m. and take 45 minutes to one hour. Fees are $10 for the walk, which meets at Cannon Park, Bay and Carteret Street; and $10, ages 11 and younger, and $18 for the carriage, which meets at downtown marina parking lot. Details: 843-524-4678.

•The Arts Council of Beaufort County will present the Global Street Art Festival at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beaufort Town Center, 2015 Boundary St.

In addition, the Arts Council of Beaufort County is working with local artists to create an artistic representation of a Day of the Dead ceremony.

The Altar will be dedicated to the Latino soldiers who have lost their lives in Iraq.

Streetpainters will begin at 8 a.m., the rest of the festivities will start at 10 a.m. with the festival running until 5 p.m. Streetpainter awards will be given at approximately 4:30 p.m.

•To help commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October, CODA, the local organization supporting victims of domestic violence, has mounted displays of "The Clothesline Project" throughout the Lowcountry.

The project encourages women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a T-shirt.

Shirts will be on display at Penn Center and county libraries in Beaufort, Bluffton, Hilton Head Island and locations at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort throughout the month and at the Bluffton-Hilton Head Candlelight Vigil Thursday at Jarvis Creek Park. •The Rotary Club of the Lowcountry Oyster Roast will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Live Oaks Park, Paris Avenue, Port Royal.

The event will feature music by Mike Kavanaugh, along with oysters, hot dogs, chili, beer and wine. There also will be door prices. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the gate, kids under 10 are free. Details: 843-524-4165.

•Barack the Vote concert is from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Darrah Hall, Penn Center on St. Helena Island. Gina Renee and the Juke Joint Allstars, Nathaniel Drank and Craig Washington, will perform.

•The Beaufort Art Association exhibit, The Thursday Painters, continues through Saturday.

The works of more than 70 member artists will be shown, including painting, photography, jewelry, glass, ceramics, wood and note cards. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Details: 843-379-2222.

•Voter Fest is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park.

The speakers are: U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, S.C. Senate candidates Tom Davis, S.C. State Rep. Shannon Erickson, Beaufort County Council Candidate Brian Flewelling and Beaufort mayoral candidates and city council candidates.

Live music will be provided by the blues band the Weigh Station, and the Beaufort Shrimpers' Association will sell shrimp dinners. Food will be served. Details: 803-465-5370.

CLASSES AND SEMINARS

•The Homeownership Resource Center, a division of the nonprofit organization Family Services Inc., will hold a foreclosure prevention counseling workshop 6-8 p.m. todayto assist homeowners having trouble paying their mortgage, at Sea Island Conference & Training Center, 178 Sams Point Road, Lady's Island.

Beaufort area homeowners at risk of foreclosure are encouraged to attend. The workshops are free and HUD-approved. Details: 888-320-0350.

•A non-denominational memorial service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church at 351 Buckwalter Parkway, Bluffton.

The service is sponsored by the staff and volunteers of the THA Group's Island Hospice, Island Healthcare and Independent Life At Home. A reception will follow.

•The Beaufort Branch American Association of University Women meet at 6 p.m. today in the First Presbyterian Church Education Building, 1201 North St.

DEADLINES

•Thursday is the final day to preregister for the Veteran Art Show. An opening reception is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at Artworks, the home of the Arts Council of Beaufort County in the Beaufort Town Center.

The exhibit will be open Nov. 7 through Nov. 11. The art will be moved to the Beaufort National Cemetery Nov. 11 for display during the Veterans Day Ceremony.

The Veterans Day ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 after the parade, which begins at 9:30 a.m., at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St. Details: 843-470-4737 or 843-470-4740.

VOLUNTEERS, CHARITIES

•A spaghetti dinner fundraiser and concert by Vessel of Honour to benefit James Altobello is from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Lowcountry Christian Fellowship, 2754 Trask Parkway, Grays Hill. The cost is $7. Details: 843-473-2018.

•Beaufort Lions Club will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Sea Island Presbyterian Church, 81 Lady's Island Drive, Lady's Island.
