Get your kids moving with sports camp

Registration for the Sheldon Baptist Church's children's sports clinic is from 9 a.m. to noon today at Sheldon Community Park. The clinic is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the park.

The sports camp will be open to children from first through 12th grades. Activities will include baseball, basketball, soccer and a surprise clinic.

Children will need a legal guardian present to sign them in, a birth certificate, an insurance card and appropriate sports gear. The children will attend the clinic of their choice each night and hear Christian music.

Choir presents concert of patriotic favorites

The Choral Anthem Choir of Shell Point Baptist Church presents "Spirit of America," a patriotic musical created by Sue C. Smith and Russell Maulden, with Dr. Linda Gibson as choir director, at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Discussions continue with talk about growth

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Beaufort's summer discussion series, Our Passions, continues from 10 to 11 a.m. Sundays through Sept. 14 at the Wardle Family YMCA, 1801 Richmond Ave., Port Royal.

On Sunday, Harley Laing, who serves on the Beaufort/Port Royal Joint Planning Commission and is a member of the Coalition for Smart Growth, a local citizens group, will discuss "Smart Growth: What Does It Look Like and How Will It Happen?"

No services are planned Aug. 31, and there is no religious education for children during the summer services.

Morning services held at Chapel-In-The-Woods

Saturday Morning Religious Services, conducted by Cantor Sheldon Feinberg, are from 10 to 11:30 a.m. every Saturday beginning today in the new Chapel-In-The-Woods, an outdoor house of worship for all denominations at 1630 Paris Ave., Port Royal.

Experiences included: The authentic Hebrew reading of the Torah, supplanted by a simultaneous translation reading of Balak Numbers Chapter 22-25.

Oneg Shabbat, Joy of the Sabbath, prior to and after the Torah reading and a study period devoted to learning to read Hebrew.

A private tour of the caboose (just steps across the quad) with its unique chronograph, describing graphically and in narration the 4,000 years of Jewish History.

At 9 p.m., the service continues at the Chapel for Havdalah, an ecumenical service devoted to saying farewell to the Jewish sabbath, and welcoming the Christian day of rest.

Lunch Hour of Power welcomes Pastor Ritter

Pastor Leonard Ritter Sr., ofEbenezer Baptist Church, will speak from noon to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Lunch Hour of Power praise and worship experience in Helen Galloway's Memorial Chapel of Chisholm Galloway Home for Funerals.

Canaan Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its combined choir anniversary at 5 p.m. July 19.

International ministers to speak at meetings

Spoken Word Outreach Ministries Camp Meeting 2008, The Glory is Coming, is at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. daily July 27 through Aug. 3. International ministers will speak.

Beaufort residents attend Tenn. assembly

Several Beaufort residents participated in the 18th annual Cooperative Baptist Fellowship General Assembly in Memphis, Tenn., June 19-20.

Participants included Paul Capps and Audrey Wiggins and The Baptist Church of Beaufort members Janice and Roger Capps and Shauw Chin Capps.

More than 2,000 Fellowship Baptists attended this year's assembly.

Highlights of the event included more than 80 ministry workshops, a celebration of mission churches, Assembly-wide prayer and discernment and missions projects throughout Memphis. Additionally, 18 new global missions field personnel were commissioned at First Baptist Church of Memphis.

The 2009 General Assembly will be July 2-3 in Houston.
