Thieves gut A/C units to steal copper

In two incidents reported Friday, thieves destroyed four air conditioning units worth thousands of dollars for a few hundred dollars worth of copper components.
The air-conditioning units were valued at $1,500 each, according to incident reports with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The stolen copper components from three adjacent businesses hit on Lady's Island Drive were valued at $160.
The fourth unit hit was at a home for sale in the Magnolia Court community off Sams Point Road.
Sunday, Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Jim Bukoffsky declined to comment on the active cases.
