Two men arrested in separate incidents April 6 took out their frustrations on a police cruiser and a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Michael Frank Singleton,39, of Burton put his foot through the rear window of a Beaufort squad car after being arrested on shoplifting charges, according to authorities.

Singleton was charged with malicious injury to real property and shoplifting.

Singleton was being questioned at his home by the police and Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies for allegedly stealing a computer from Wal-Mart, according to authorities.

The man's vehicle matched the description and license plate number of the vehicle spotted by employees leaving the store and deputies found a large computer box in the back seat, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

After being arrested, Singleton began kicking the left rear door of the squad car, shattering the window and "severely damaging" the door, the report states. Police put him in leg irons as they awaited paramedics to treat a cut on Singleton's leg from the shattered glass.

Singleton's mother told deputies that he was "high and drunk" at the time of the incident, according to police.

Damage to the car was estimated at $500.

Singleton was being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on $2,175 bail as of Wednesday afternoon.

Also Tuesday a Beaufort man was charged with assault and battery and driving too fast for conditions after crashing his car on Joe Frazier Road and then pushing a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Dane Ince, 20, told deputies that he was driving home on Joe Frazier Road on Tuesday morning when he lost control of his 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, struck a mailbox and then a tree, according to authorities. The car burst into flames shortly after hitting the tree.

"I was going too fast, and I rolled the car," Ince told deputies.

When pressed for details about how he escaped the burning car, Ince became agitated and began cursing loudly.

Once paramedics arrived, Ince refused treatment from EMTs and tried to leave. When a deputy tried to prevent Ince from leaving, the man shoved the deputy, striking him on the chin, according to the report.

Ince was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor cuts and abrasions suffered in the crash. After allowing doctors to take several X-rays, he refused to take urine and blood tests and declined an IV, according to the report.

The deputy was not injured in the skirmish and did not receive medial treatment.

Ince was released on his own recognizance Tuesday.
