A Beaufort man was stabbed seven times Wednesday night by his roommate who was wielding a steak knife, according to authorities.
Shildlee Primus, 25, was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and armed robbery with a deadly weapon after stabbing his roommate and stealing his wallet, police said.
Authorities were called to an address at Breezy Acres Estates on Broad River Boulevard in Port Royal at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, according toSgt. Michael Chapman of the Port Royal Police Department.
Authorities found 30-year-old Kevin Doe stabbed in the throat, shoulder, chest and other areas, Chapman said. Police say Primus stole Doe's wallet and ran from the scene.
The knife Primus used was "a small steak knife, almost like a kitchen knife," Chapman said.
Police are investigating what led to the stabbing, but Chapman said police suspect it may have been over money.
Primus also has been charged with kidnapping because he prevented Doe from leaving the house during the confrontation, Chapman said.
Doe was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital before being transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina.
The Charleston hospital refused to release information on Doe's condition Thursday.
Primus was being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing as of Thursday night.
The stabbing Wednesday was the second in two days for area police.
Tuesday night, Beaufort Police responded to a stabbing on Monson Street.
Beverly Earlene Jones, 45, was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill after allegedly stabbing 32-year-old Contrina Ferguson during a dispute.
Jones is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
Ferguson was released from Beaufort Memorial Hospital on Thursday, said Courtney McDermott, hospital spokeswoman.
