Two people were killed Saturday evening in a head-on crash on Sea Island Parkway at Dulamo Road, according to Lance Cpl. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Angela Chaplin, 44, of St. Helena Island had left a friend’s home on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and nearly was at the intersection of Dulamo Road, where she would turn off toward home, when a minivan heading west, driven by Marcial Mota-Mendez, 33, of Mexico, crossed the center line and hit her Ford Expedition, said Beaufort County Coroner-elect Ed Allen. Both drivers were killed. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The accident occurred about 6 p.m. and traffic was halted for more than two hours as crews from Lady’s Island-St. Helena Fire District extricated the drivers and cleared the wreckage.
The accident is being investigated by S.C. Highway Patrol, Allen said.
