To make sure the Lowcountry Community Blood Center has enough blood to make it through the Labor Day weekend, it will hold several blood drives this week. Blood supplies generally are in high demand but in low supply during the holiday weekend, said Alyson Barber, spokeswoman for Lowcountry Community Blood Center. She said the shortage is caused by the lapse between the 42-day shelf life for blood and the 56 days before a blood donor can donate again. (More)

Beaufort Memorial Hospital announced Wednesday that Edward Ricks will be the new vice president and chief information officer. He will oversee a team of information technologists and be responsible for information services and telecommunication at the hospital.
