Marine charged in bar fight

A Marine was charged with resisting arrest and public disorderly conduct as officers tried to break up a fight outside a south Hilton Head Island bar, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's report released Sunday.

Officers on routine patrol found Benjamin G. Burnside, 28, of Beaufort involved in a fight outside of Hilton Head Brewing Co., 7 Greenwood Drive, at 2:56 a.m. Saturday, the report stated.

They identified Burnside as the aggressor and tried to handcuff him, but he resisted by flailing his arms and "screaming in a rage," according to the report.

Several officers subdued him, but had to forcibly place him in he back of a cruiser, the report stated. Burnside was again disruptive in the booking office of the county jail, according to the report.

A bar employee reportedly told deputies Burnside was kicked out of the bar for slapping a woman and kept trying to go back inside to continue a fight.
