Beaufort police said Alex Gill was witnessed Sunday night inside an apartment on Southside Boulevard arguing with an ex-girlfriend, shortly before threatening her with a butcher knife, said Maj. Matt Clancy, police department spokesman.
As Port Royal police waited for Beaufort police to arrive, Gill began fighting with the two policeman before being restrained, Clancy said. The apartment was found to be in Beaufort Police Department jurisdiction, though Port Royal Police was originally dispatched.
Gill was charged with two counts of simple assault and battery, one count of public drunkeness, one count of public disorderly conduct, one count of assault with intent to kill, and one count of criminal domestic violence in the 2nd degree. He is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center, awaiting an examination of his immigration status by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Officials.
