Visitors bureau names O'Brien its new executive director

The Beaufort-Port Royal Convention & Visitors Bureau has named Elizabeth O'Brien executive director, according to a news release.

O'Brien is a Beaufort native and 1992 graduate of Beaufort Academy. She received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Indiana University in 1996. She worked 10 years in the Chicago area for at a start-up advertising agency, Wunderman Advertising, and in advertising sales for AOL. She returned to Beaufort in 2007 and has been consulting for various clients and agencies.

"Tourism is second only to the military in supporting our local economy, and it has never been more important to keep tourism strong and grow it in a way that protects what is unique and special about this area," O'Brien said in a news release. "I look forward to working with the Chamber (of Commerce), the Economic Network, local and state governments and our nearly 400 members."
