The brutality and the apparent randomness of the attack on Brian Lanese and a friend in Lanese's own backyard make the news of arrests in the case very welcome. Residents of the Windy Lakes neighborhood where Lanese lives must be particularly relieved by the arrests by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, which came less than four weeks after the attacks.

Lanese was attacked Oct. 30. On Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office arrested and charged three Bluffton teenagers. A judge denied bond for the three on the charges of burglary and separate charges of assault and battery with intent to kill.

The Sheriff's Office identified the suspects using DNA collected from evidence at the scene and through interviews with Bluffton High School administrators and students and residents of the area. The cooperation with law enforcement is to be applauded.

Perhaps the best news, though, is that Lanese appears to be on the road to recovery and on his way home.
