Female Angler
I suspect there is a bit of slack line here. The only entries for this category came from the BSFDC (listed as species, boat, angler, weight). We know better, the ladies know they can fish.Is it they are not being given the opportunity?
Amberjack: Hold-N-On, Melanie McCaffree, 28.9; Black Sea Bass: My Time Out, Phyllis Gibson, 2.1; Flounder: Artimes, Pam Roy, 4.1; Red Snapper: Mikes Marine, Sarah Florez, 6.44; Sea Trout, Froggy Daddy, Carol Curren, 2.68; Spot: Lil Looer, Holly Carslake, .18, Triggerfish: Mikes Marine, Sarah Florez, 3.46; Vermilion Snapper: Mikes Marine, Sarah Florez, 2.07; Whiting, Froggy Daddy, Carol Curren, 1.14.
Lost Category
The 10 x 10 category did not show any entries from either club. This category is specific to anglers under 10 years of age with 10 species.
Youth Angler
It appears that the younger anglers of Beaufort County are more concentrated North of the Broad as well. As the entries show there were only two species entered by the Hilton Head Sportfishing Club and they both belonged to Remy Boracco fishing aboard Reel Control. His catch consisted of a Black Seabass at 1.38 pounds and a Whiting moving the scales at 0.48 ounces.
For members of the Beaufort Sportfishing and Diving Club, enthusiasm seemed to be a bit more contagious with 10 entries showing a good species spread. Here are the entries are listed by species, boat, angler and weight.
Amberjack: My Time Out III, Kane Thorp, 16.3; Black Sea Bass: Mikes Marine, Brice Spade, 3.3; Bluefish: No Worries, Chris Skrip, 1.02; Flounder , Sea Wolf Vl, Kris Robson, 2.8; Red Drum: Ashby West, 4.8; Red Snapper: Mikes Marine, Brice Spade, 14.32; Toad Fish, Mikes Marine, Brice Spade,1.01; Triggerfish, Mikes Marine, Brice Spade 2.84; Vermilion Snapper, No Worries, Seth Andrews, 3.02, and to close out the youth to date was Megan Craig on Reel Control with a 0.54-ounce Whiting.
In Review
Well there you have it, the latest results of the ongoing battle between anglers north and south of the Broad. There will need to be a bit more flag waving from the South if they are to be victorious, but I suspect this will come in due time. If you have a claim to any species not listed, take heart there is a means of retribution. Regain your good name and get back among the good graces of your neighbors and friends. If you do not see your name, species or boat, or if the information is incorrect, misspelled or otherwise completely ignored you can contact the culprit responsible.
For north of the Broad it is Frank Gibson who can be reached at fgibson@islc.net. South of the Broad, you can calm the storm by contacting Russell Patterson at rpatterson@jsplaw.net. I only report the news of such events and have learned a long time ago not to question things I don't understand. As Russell so eloquently puts it: "A fish not weighed is just a fish story!"
