Jackie Johnson and her husband Ike both turned in super games for their teams in the VIP Seniors to highlight the league action last week. Jackie ripped off a big 209 game on a 126 average for her Bad Bowlers team (Robert Smith, Ida Cuthbert, Betty White) for a +83 pins over game and +87 pins over series performance. The score earned her USBC awards and improved her average five pins to 131. She also earned her +75 pins award from Ribaut Lanes. (More)

Roberta "Peachy" Buncombe won her first Parris Island Bowling Club championship with a narrow 168-156 victory over Ann Pierce-Lindo on June 14 at Parris Island Lanes from a field of 37 bowlers. (More)

Hawk Lewis broke through for a sterling 715 series en route to a four-game total of 937 to set the pace in the Scratch Doubles last week. Lewis pounded out games of 255-247-213 for his 700 set and then added a 222 for his last game to highlight the action. Lewis has been on a hot streak lately with his second consecutive 900 set to bolster his average up to 205, good for second place behind Bill Brady's league leading 211. Lewis has elevated his Hot & Sweaty team into third place, just four games behind front-runners Bowlaholics in the tight race. Only 6 points separating the top five teams. (More)

Revolution (James Jenkins, Horace Powell, Bernard Rivers, Clarence Daniel) won the Monday Night Mixed league championship by a 2.5 game margin over the Fantastic Four (Eve Seabrook, Audrey Jenkins, Karl Magwood, Charlie Storey) to complete the 2007-08 fall season. (More)

The scratch doubles summer session settled back to a somewhat quiet night last week after their tremendous opening session the week before. Perhaps it was the new pins (3-pound, 6 ounce; 3-pound, 7-ounce) that caused the decline in big scores as the bowlers just couldn't get anything going. Could it be they were expecting big things again and it just didn't happen? (More)

The Scratch Doubles summer league got under way last week, and as expected, there were many great scores turned in on the first week of action. Mike Robinson led the charge with a big four-game set of 950 with games of 226-244-257 for a 727 series + 223 and Bill Brady was close behind at 906 (258-244-202=704 series + 202). (More)

A.K.A. Over Rated (Justin Smith, John Manning, Paul Cole, Donnie Daughtry, Keith Gabbert) lived up their billing as the top team in the Civilian-Military league with a slim 15.5 to 12.5 point victory over All That 2 (Tony Grant, Lou Grant, Dan Lott, Tommy Meyers, Eddie Day) last Wednesday night to conclude a highly-successful 34 week season over the field of 24 teams. They won two of the three segments and drew a bye in the rolloff while All That 2, who won the first segment, battled against the Wild Card team, Right Turn +2 (Tom Beere, Matt Mihiylov, Chuck Lather, Jody Vermilyea) in the first match. They would prevail with a 17-11 victory by a comfortable 73-pin margin to advance to the championship match. (More)

Jeff Toyne captured his third Parris Island Bowling Club championship with a smashing 238-212 victory over Mike Pernell from a field of 45 bowlers in the April 12 tournament at Ribaut Lanes. Pernell was the top qualifier for the day and waited in the wings while the rest of the field worked their way through the elimination matches to vie for the title. (More)

Teresa Manning was elected president of the Lowcountry USBC Association at the annual awards banquet held last Saturday at Lady's Island Country Club. Manning replaces Paul Cole, who stepped down after serving the past three years as president since the merger of ABC/WIBC into the United States Bowling Congress in 2005. Manning will be joined by Matt Mihiylov as first vice president and Jake Fulcher as second vice president and newly elected directors Tiger Fulkert, Angela Fulkert, Lori Fabian, Don Chenoweth, Ben Duncan and Kristine Brady. Bill Ursillo will fill the unexpired term of Jody Vermilyea. (More)
