•Knowing the arrangement of the pins and how they are numbered will help you understand the game of bowling a little more. The pins are numbered from 1-10 and arranged in a triangle, with the headpin being number 1, the number two pin is the one on the left and the number three pin the one on the right of the headpin. That forms the 1-3 "pocket" for the right-handed bowler to hit and, with proper entry angle, the ball will hit the 1-3-5-9 pins, resulting in a strike. The other pins will be knocked down by deflection from the pins that the ball hit. The pins on the left side are the 1,2,4,7 and when you add the total of the first three pins, (1+2+4), the total is 7; conversely, on the right side it is the 1-3-6-10 which, when adding the first three pins (1+3+6), the total is 10. Call the pins by their number when referring to the pins that remain after your delivery. Inquiring minds always wanted to know this, right?
