Hawk Lewis broke through for a sterling 715 series en route to a four-game total of 937 to set the pace in the Scratch Doubles last week. Lewis pounded out games of 255-247-213 for his 700 set and then added a 222 for his last game to highlight the action. Lewis has been on a hot streak lately with his second consecutive 900 set to bolster his average up to 205, good for second place behind Bill Brady's league leading 211. Lewis has elevated his Hot & Sweaty team into third place, just four games behind front-runners Bowlaholics in the tight race. Only 6 points separating the top five teams.

• Anthony Johnston from the Youth Bowers of Beaufort recently competed in the Tim Spencer Rice Scratch tournament and bowled very well, finishing in eighth place among 67 bowlers. This is the format they used: Bowl five games, then the field was cut in half, then bowl four more games and the field was again cut in half, then bowl head to head matches. Winners get 30 bonus points added to their score, then bowl a position round and then the top move on to bowl head to head for scholarship money. These are Johnston's scores in the first round: 185-195-194-265-195; round two: 235-234-207-204; head to head: 193 (win), 201 (loss), 216 (win), 157 (loss), 207 (loss), 247 (win). The next day, head to head scores were: 267 (win), 166 (loss), 168 (loss), 207 (loss), 237 (loss); position round: 195 (win). Stephen Dubatowka also competed, but failed to make it past the first round. Congratulations Anthony on a great performance.
