Johnsons lead way for Bad Bowlers, Gamblers

Jackie Johnson and her husband Ike both turned in super games for their teams in the VIP Seniors to highlight the league action last week. Jackie ripped off a big 209 game on a 126 average for her Bad Bowlers team (Robert Smith, Ida Cuthbert, Betty White) for a +83 pins over game and +87 pins over series performance. The score earned her USBC awards and improved her average five pins to 131. She also earned her +75 pins award from Ribaut Lanes.
Meanwhile, Ike banged out a big 220 game on a 141 average for his Gamblers team (Earlene Bellamy, Tony Martinez, Mike Pernell) to boost the team into the lead among the 10 teams competing in the summer league as they reach mid-season this week. Ike finished +79 pins over his game average and 121 pins over his series average and also earned his Ribaut Lanes +75 pins award. He improved his average by seven pins to 148 in the process.
Taking series honors for the league was Bob Culp who blitzed the pins for a gigantic 645 series on games of 195-240-210 on his 169 average for a +138 pins over series outing for his Easy Does It team (Lois Cochrane, Teege Culp, Ellen Richardson, James Jenkins). Next in line was Tom Yuhas with a 591 (214-202), Roy Nygaard 587 (201-2099), Ben Green 566 (208), Mike Pernell 559 (204), Ike Johnson 544 (220), David Hooper 520 (199), James Jenkins 511 (206) to wrap up the big hitters. Also turning in big games were Charlie Meyer 180, George Ladson 171 and John Cartwright 162.
Lori Hooper took the weekly honors for the women with a 521 (191) while Barbara Tapio had 507 (211), Ida Cuthbert 481 (189) and Jackie Johnson 465 (209) to wrap up the big scores. Other top scores were registered by Betty White 170, Loraine Ferguson 160 and Dot Higgins 152.
As the league hits the mid-season mark, the Gamblers sit atop the league standings by a slim one-half game over the up-start Ketch-Ups (Odessa Simmons, Mary Robinson, David Hooper, Charles Meyers). They will battle in position round action this week while the Dragons (Loraine Ferguson, Lois Cable, Carolyn Bessinger, Lori Hooper) will take on the Kool Kats (HF Capps, Bruce O'Hora, John Cartwright, Sal Salomon) in a close battle for the league. A slim three-game bulge separates the top seven teams in the close league standings.
Congratulations to the Johnsons for their great games.
