Lots in store for Gazette's high school basketball coverage

Well, it's Thanksgiving, and that means a new season of high school basketball is upon us. We have a lot of new things in store for our hoops coverage this season on islandpacket.com and beaufortgazette.com, so I wanted to give you a quick tour.

First of all, we've created team pages for every school in our coverage area, like we did for the area's football teams. On each page, you'll find rosters, schedules, team capsules, all the latest news and video, and links to our online schedule and standings database, as well as our statistics database. (If you don't see your team's stats, don't worry ... yet. Most teams haven't played a game yet, and many of those who have played haven't reported stats yet. If you don't see them when we get a little deeper into the season, let the coach know he can send the stats to jjarrett@islandpacket.com and I'll add them to the database.)

As far as video, with 20 teams in our coverage area (10 boys, 10 girls) it was a bit too much to pull off preview videos for every team like we did at the beginning of football season. But we do have for you is "The High School Hoops Show," which we hope to produce on a regular basis to keep all the hardcore hoops fans up to speed on what's happening around the area. The preview edition of the show is up now, and you can find it on any of the team pages. We broke it up into two versions -- one for North of the Broad schools, and one for South of the Broad schools -- so if you like to keep tabs on the teams on both sides of the river, you'll have to check out both shows.

We're still working on getting the links to the team pages added to the site navigation, but in the meantime, here's a list of links that should help you get to your favorite team's page (and you can feel free to bookmark it -- or better yet, link to it from your Web site).
